Past Performances

The Lamb White Days

Saturday October 26, 2024 – 7:30 pm

Grace Church on-the-Hill

The Orpheus Choir of Toronto kicks off its highly anticipated 60th season, celebrating youth, vitality, and transformation. Featuring works composed by musicians at the outset of their careers as well as pieces centred on childhood, this program includes standards by WA Mozart and Gabriel Faure with newer works by contemporary composers such as Katerina Gimon, George Chung, Stephanie Martin, Veljo Tormis, Budi Susanto Yohanes and more.

Capping off the program is the lush and evocative Fern Hill by acclaimed composer John Corigliano. We are thrilled to collaborate with the fantastic Young Voices Toronto during this performance, a testament to our shared passion for music as we envision the future of what Orpheus has to offer.

A Ceremony of Carols

Tuesday December 17, 2024 – 7:30 pm

Calvin Presbyterian Church

The divine harmonic writing of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols has long been a beloved staple of the holiday repertoire. Featuring harp accompaniment and the voices of the Orpheus Choir of Toronto, this candle-lit concert will see a rare performance of Reena Esmail’s Winter Breviary – a piece dedicated to the beauty of darkness and light and composed using three separate Hindustani Raags. Some of our favorite Christmas and Chanukah tunes will complete this tender and intimate program.

The Atonement

Saturday March 22, 2025 – 7:30 pm

Yorkminster Park Baptist Church

Born 150 years ago this year, Samuel Coleridge Taylor remains one of the most influential and widely performed classical composers of African descent. His recently restored lenten masterwork, The Atonement, has not seen a full Canadian performance with choir and orchestra since 1904.

Join the Orpheus Choir of Toronto, and special guests The Nathaniel Dett Chorale, alongside a professional orchestra and soloists as they celebrate the legacy of this trailblazing composer and reintroduce The Atonement in its full splendor to Canadian audiences for the first time in over 100 years.

Mass Transmission

Saturday May 10, 2025 – 7:30 pm

Grace Church on-the-Hill

Orpheus is set to make a profound impact on the Toronto choral scene and push the boundaries of choral music with a program that showcases music for choir and fixed electronics.

The program features two ambitious Canadian Premieres: Jocelyn Hagen’s Hummingbird and DJ/Composer Mason Bates’ Mass Transmission. With innovative explorations of sound, technology, and moving storytelling, this performance is not just a concert but an inspiration that will leave you in awe.
